Evening: Psalm 73; Matthew 5:11-16
Using
earthy metaphors, Jesus promotes living well: “You are salt,” so …
bring out all the exquisite flavour of the creation. “You are light,”
so … let truth shine in you; do not to block out the light. Light shines
in our good actions when they do not draw attention to us, but instead
they point to the marvelous integrity of the creation. It’s easy to
forget we are not alone, to think we must scramble to generate our own
power … to keep ‘the light’ turned on. But a power greater than our own
power helps us to shine.
