Evening: Psalms 141, 143:1-11; John 11:1-27
Jeremiah
says God’s plan for exiles – isn’t this everyone in some way? – is to
restore their fortunes. Exile is being cut off from life and from what
once sustained you. It is like being a branch cut off from its tree, it
is a kind of death. Jesus, though, says he is the resurrection and the
life – the one who brings home exiles, restores branches cut off from
their source, and calls us from death into life. William Stringfellow
says a Christian is one who responds to Jesus’ call and chooses “to live
in Christ instead of death.”
