Evening: Psalm 103; Matthew 7:15-29
Whom
to trust? Our world is in a crisis of trust. When things are
off-kilter, anxious people may follow authoritarian leaders who say they
have the answers. Such leaders wield authority, but not humbly. Jesus,
on the other hand, shows God’s way … he leads humbly and
with authority. The Gospel teaches us to shun demagoguery and
authoritarianism and to cast our anxieties on God. Humanly speaking,
this means it is wise to choose leaders who balance authority with
humility, those who themselves follow and reflect the way of Jesus.
