Evening: Psalm 8, 84; Matthew 7:7-14
Our
culture is obsessed with novelty. New is better. If something’s older
than a year or two, it’s out of date.  When Paul says, “hold fast to the
traditions that you were taught,” he sounds deeply counter-cultural.
But we have known for millennia how to live wisely. There are timeless
spiritual traditions to which most humans still hold fast. Some of them
will never become obsolete. The most well-known of them all may be
Jesus’ saying: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Let me
know if you find something newer and better than that.
